whom we had already talked to about this potential collaboration. We announced our program in a press conference on October 21, 2005. Many individuals and organizations from all over Pakistan appreciated and adopted the idea of providing fiberglass cabins to the earthquake affected and instantly started working on it. The idea gained a lot of popularity among the masses as well as the intelligentsia. At one end, it was a very encouraging sign and displayed common spirit for a national cause but on the other hand a lot of price fluctuation had started taking place in the fiberglass market because of the demand of the idea as well as the fiberglass material. Many dealers were procuring fiber glass in huge quantities resulting in a price hike.
There was a change observed in cost of two main components with the passage of time, which is given below:
Chopped Stand Matt:
2-3 cents (US $) per kg (Importers’ price taken from Taiwan glass, Taiwan)
Resin:
Increased by Rs.5/- per kg
(Similarly other costs of chemicals used in manufacturing of fiberglass cabins had also increased)
However, we tried maintaining the complete cost from raw material procurement to installation of complete structure and sticking to our original cost of Rs. 25,000/- and a meeting of the Earthquake Relief Council of Taaleem for All Trust was convened for a situation review and strategy evaluation.
- We decided to stick to the given costs
- Subsequent market fluctuations were promptly reported to all the donors
- Taaleem for All Trust regularly reported the expense detail and status of program to its donors
