Rehabilitation of Earthquake effected people      Back to Main News Page

Human being continues making efforts in different fields of life. However, nature has its own course and no matter what human being plan, nature dictates its terms and all human being have to obey the nature. The human behavior on such difficult turning point reflects the character of a nation.

On 8th October, 2005 at 8:52 AM, the nation was put to a great test when earthquake hit the country. A moment that marked havoc in the history of Pakistan. Though it may take a long time to heal the wounds, the way every Pakistani extended their hand for help is highly commendable. The pain and suffering of this incident cannot be measured at any Rector Scale.

Jawad Ahmad felt the pain and suffering of his elders, brothers, sisters and children and decided to divert all his resources and efforts for the effected people. He immediately reached the effected areas and joined the shocked and depressed children and attempted to share their miseries. He distributed books, chocolates, toys and other essential items amongst children.

At the same time, Jawad Ahmad also assessed the immediate needs of people. After assessing the need and consultation with board of Trustees of Taaleem for All Trust, it was decided that the priority should be given to a permanent and effective shelter worthy of sustaining extreme weather conditions.

Jawad Ahmad asked the Project engineers of the Trust to consider the idea of manufacturing fiber Glass Houses which are easy to install and also weather resistant. The team worked on the idea and developed a model which could house 6 to 8 people. Fiberglass houses are far more durable and practical. These are also safe in natural calamities such as earthquakes, fire and heavy rains. A house of this sort could be assembled in almost an hour. Typically, these houses have a dimension of 8’x12’x8’ and are only slightly more expensive then a conventional tent. Considering he difficult conditions in these areas, this was perhaps the best and most effective mode of living.

The fiber glass cabins are also flexible and can be used as a house or a hospital or a school. These houses proved best shelters as these are easy to assemble in a minimum time at much less cost.

Soon after launch of this idea, several people joined hands with Jawad Ahmad and in no time these houses were manufactured. Taaleem for All Trust build and erected almost 300 houses in earthquake affected regions. These houses were erected in far-flung areas of:

  • Muzaffarabad
  • Baagh
  • Chattar
  • palangi
  • Forward kahuta
  • Mansehra
  • Malik Pur
  • Balakot

People from across the world came forward and provided financial assistance to build these houses. The assistance came from local sources as well as from Pakistani Community from different countries of the globe, to name a few:

  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Washington
  • Saint Loius
  • Chicago
  • Waterloo
  • Cincinnati
  • San Francisco
  • Los Angeles
  • Houston
  • Indiapolis
  • Demoines
  • Staton Island
  • Sacramento
  • London
  • Birmingham
  • New Castle
  • Manchester
  • Reading

Majority of the future educational Projects of Taaleem for All Trust now focus on earthquake effected areas. Since Trust’s primary area of work revolves around imparting education, it plans to make primary schools in these areas.

As we all know that Taaleem for All Trust's main project is building schools for the unresourceful children in the under privilleged areas of Pakistan, such as Forward Kahuta (Azad kashmir) and Malikpur (Mansehra), both of which are earthquake effected areas.
